Murtfeldt: smart thermoplastics manufacturing for modern industry

We would like to introduce one of our long-standing and trusted partners — Murtfeldt.
Murtfeldt is a German company specializing in the development and manufacturing of components and materials made from engineering plastics.

Murtfeldt products help solve the following production challenges:

  • rapid wear of metal components — through the use of wear-resistant, low-friction plastics;
  • efficiency losses and wear of conveyor components caused by friction — thanks to guide and tensioning elements;
  • the need for constant lubrication — through self-lubricating materials;
  • product build-up on processing equipment — through low-adhesion materials;
  • hygiene-related issues — through food-grade materials safe for contact with food products.

Murtfeldt covers the headaches of production - friction, wear and process instability.

Let’s take a closer look at this truly innovative company!

Murtfeldt is a fourth-generation family business that has been setting standards in the field of engineering plastics for more than 70 years. The company combines traditional German quality, deep expertise in material science, and modern manufacturing powered by advanced technologies and digital solutions. These strengths have enabled Murtfeldt to evolve into a progressive high-tech leader that today effectively sets trends in plastic manufacturing and processing.

The company’s innovation hub is its semi-automated plant in Dortmund, Germany. Here, the precision of advanced machinery is combined with the critical thinking and expertise of experienced engineers. This allows Murtfeldt to achieve high processing accuracy with large production volumes.

Let's get acquainted with the main production areas of Murtfeldt.

Materials production

The foundation of Murtfeldt’s manufacturing solutions lies in the use of engineering thermoplastics adapted for operation in difficult conditions such as friction, abrasive wear, and aggressive environments. Murtfeldt’s portfolio includes more than 200 different material types with unique properties for solving specific tasks – PE, PA, POM, PET, PVDF, PTFE, PEEK, and various composites.

In particular:

  • Original “S”® green material — an ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene (UHMW-PE SG 1.2) that serves as Murtfeldt’s signature material. It features an exceptionally low coefficient of friction, high wear resistance, and excellent anti-adhesion properties.
  • Special compounds — plastics with antistatic properties, electrically conductive materials, as well as variants resistant to high temperatures (up to 300°C) and aggressive environments.
  • Plastics for the food industry — a significant part of the product range complies with FDA standards and EU regulations, making these materials suitable for direct contact with food products.

Mechanical processing:

The precision of Murtfeldt’s mechanical processing is ensured through the use of semi-automated CNC machining centers, enabling the production of components with strict tolerance compliance. This guarantees consistent repeatability in serial production and a high-quality surface finish, which is critical for sliding and guiding applications.

Murtfeldt provides a complete production cycle — from concept development to mass production — with all processes integrated into a unified quality control system. This allows the company to manufacture both custom single parts and large production batches without compromising quality or efficiency.

Additive manufacturing (3D printing):

Murtfeldt has elevated 3D printing to an industrial level. It is a fully integrated production process for functional components:

  • Complex shapes – the ability to realize geometry that cannot be machined.
  • Rapid prototyping — going from idea to finished test part in a short time.
  • Cost efficiency — without the need for expensive molds and tooling and with minimizing material waste.

It is worth noting the combined processing - the part is printed on a 3D printer and then undergoes final mechanical processing to achieve an ideal surface and maximum functionality.

What makes murtfeldt unique:

The company’s key advantage lies in the fact that they:

  • develop the materials themselves;
  • process these materials themselves;
  • create the final parts themselves.

This means they have a deep understanding of how materials behave:

  • during machining;
  • under mechanical load;
  • in real operating conditions.

Their production operates as a unified system, where a digital model is quickly transformed into a finished component with guaranteed quality.

Murtfeldt helps manufacturers:

  • reduce equipment wear
  • minimize downtime
  • improve production efficiency

And often — without the need for major investments in new equipment.

If you are looking for ways to make your production processes more stable and efficient, Murtfeldt solutions can become a valuable asset for your enterprise.
