About gear oil

A correct lubrication of a gearbox is the most important condition of its long-term exploitation without emergency stoppages, at the same time expenses for oil take a large part of the total cost of a gearbox ownership.

So how can we guarantee a long life of a gearbox with minimal expenses? We can give you several pieces of advice.

  1. While choosing a brand of a gearbox check the schedule of oil changes. Some manufacturers ask to change even the synthetic oil every 8 000 hours of exploitation(roughly one year of the non-stop duty).
The interval of an oil change in Bonfiglioli gearboxes is up to 25 000 hours of exploitation.
  2. The mineral oil is 3-4 times cheaper than the synthetic oil. But the mineral oil must be changed at least two times more frequently than synthetic oil. In case of a delay of its change, the oil loses its properties and provokes intensive wearing of gears and pinions.
We fill Bonfiglioli gearboxes only with high-quality synthetic oil.
  3. If you are a frugal and effective manager – calculate the expenses for oil in the long-term perspective. Take into account that expenses mean not only a cost of oil, but also a cost of labor, cost of delivery, storage and its utilization. Moreover, each operation of oil change bears different risks of human factor.
  4. A great impact on oil lifetime has its operational temperature. A resource of the oil reduces if its temperature is higher than 65°С. High quality and reliable-designed gearboxes warm up less than budgetary ones. It is possible to evaluate a risk of a gearbox heating if you consider a thermal power value, which is available in catalogues of gearbox manufacturers.
Bonfiglioli gearboxes have one of the highest values of thermal power on the market and do not have excessive heating.
  5. Do not mix different types of oil and always follow the oil specification and schedule of oil changes.

We wish you a failure free and effective work!
